GREYSCALE 01+ IRON & WHEEL is a pH-balanced iron remover and wheel cleaner designed to handle two essential detailing jobs with one versatile formula. Use it full strength as a powerful, ready-to-use wheel cleaner or dilute it 1:1 for paint-safe chemical decontamination, where its color-changing formula reacts with embedded iron and fallout to help dissolve and release contamination from the surface.

Key Features & Benefits

Wheel Cleaner + Iron Remover in One Replaces the need for separate wheel-cleaning and paint-decontamination chemicals with one versatile formula.

pH-Balanced & Finish-Safe Designed for safe use across automotive paint and wheel surfaces, including sensitive wheel finishes.

Color-Changing Iron Reaction The thickened liquid applies clear before turning red as its active chemistry reacts with embedded iron particles and begins dissolving them.

Two Ways to Use It Apply full strength for effective wheel cleaning or dilute 1:1 with water for paint-safe iron and fallout removal.

Ideal for Coating & PPF Prep Removes embedded contamination during the chemical decontamination stage before polishing, ceramic coating, or paint protection film installation.

How to Use

For Wheels

Step 1: Make sure the wheel is cool to the touch before application.

Step 2: Apply 01+ IRON & WHEEL full strength across the wheel surface.

Step 3: Allow the product to dwell while watching for the clear-to-red color change that indicates a reaction with iron contamination.

Step 4: Agitate with an appropriate wheel brush when additional mechanical cleaning is necessary.

Step 5: Rinse the wheel thoroughly with water.

For Paint Decontamination

Step 1: Dilute 01+ IRON & WHEEL 1:1 with water.

Step 2: Apply evenly to the contaminated painted surface.

Step 3: Allow the product to react with embedded iron and fallout contamination.

Step 4: Thoroughly rinse the treated surface before continuing with the next stage of your detailing process.

Pro Tip: Iron removal is particularly valuable before machine polishing, ceramic coating, or PPF installation. Removing embedded metallic contamination chemically means there’s less bonded contamination left on the surface during the mechanical decontamination and correction stages.

Why We Love It

We think combining these two jobs makes a lot of sense. Iron removers and effective wheel cleaners frequently rely on similar chemistry, so having one product that can be used full strength at the wheels and diluted for paint eliminates another bottle from the detailing cart without sacrificing either application. The thicker consistency is also useful where you want the chemistry to remain on the surface long enough to work rather than immediately running off.

Compatible With / Works Best With

Wheel Brushes & Detailing Brushes Use appropriate agitation to reach barrels, spokes, lug areas, and textured surfaces when wheels require more than chemical cleaning alone.

Clay & Mechanical Decontamination Products Use 01+ first to chemically dissolve iron, then follow with mechanical decontamination when additional bonded contaminants remain.

Ceramic Coatings & Paint Protection Film Incorporate iron removal into surface preparation before correction, coating, or PPF installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use GREYSCALE 01+ on both wheels and paint?

Yes. That’s one of the primary reasons for the formula. GREYSCALE designed it for use on both paint and wheel surfaces rather than requiring separate iron-removal products for each.

Do I need to dilute it?

It depends on the job. Use 01+ full strength on wheels or dilute it 1:1 with water when using it as a paint-safe iron remover.

Why does the product turn red?

The color change occurs as the active ingredient reacts with embedded iron particles. The reaction helps dissolve and release the metallic contamination from the surface.

Should I use an iron remover before applying a ceramic coating or PPF?

Yes, when iron contamination is present. Chemical decontamination helps produce a cleaner surface before moving into clay treatment, polishing, ceramic coating, or PPF installation.

Can I use 01+ to maintain a ceramic-coated vehicle?

Yes. GREYSCALE specifically recommends it for seasonal ceramic-coating maintenance when embedded iron and fallout have accumulated on the surface.
