How to Use Grey 999 Silicone Gasket Maker

Preparation

1. Clean the Surface:
   • Remove old gasket material, dirt, oil, and grease using a gasket scraper or cleaning solvent.
   • Ensure the surface is dry and free of contaminants for optimal adhesion.
2. Choose the Right Application:
   • Confirm the products suitability for the specific temperature, pressure, and chemical exposure of the intended use.

Application

1. Cut the Nozzle:
   • Use a utility knife to cut the nozzle at a 45-degree angle to match the desired bead size.
2. Apply the Silicone:
   • Squeeze the tube gently to dispense a continuous bead of sealant around the mating surface. Ensure uniform coverage.
3. Assemble the Components:
   • For gasket replacement, allow the silicone to skin (become tacky) for about 510 minutes before assembly.
   • Tighten bolts or screws to manufacturer-recommended torque specifications.

Curing Process

1. Initial Cure:
   • The gasket maker will set in about 1 hour at room temperature.
2. Full Cure:
   • Complete curing takes approximately 24 hours, depending on temperature, humidity, and bead thickness.

Maintenance Tips

1. Periodic Inspection
   • Regularly inspect seals for signs of wear or damage, especially in high-stress environments.
2. Clean Excess Silicone
   • Remove excess cured silicone from tools and surfaces to prevent buildup and ensure cleanliness.
3. Store Properly
   • Keep the tube tightly sealed and store it in a cool, dry place to extend shelf life.
4. Avoid Over-Tightening
   • Excessive tightening of bolts or screws can damage the silicone seal, reducing its effectiveness.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

Problem: Poor Adhesion

• Cause: Dirty or contaminated surfaces.
• Solution: Clean surfaces thoroughly and ensure they are dry before application.

Problem: Seal Failure

• Cause: Insufficient curing time or improper application.
• Solution: Allow adequate time for curing and apply the sealant evenly.

Problem: Silicone Does Not Dispense Smoothly

• Cause: Hardened material in the nozzle.
• Solution: Cut a fresh opening in the nozzle and ensure proper storage to prevent drying.

Safety Precautions

1. Ventilation:
   • Use the gasket maker in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes.
2. Protective Gear:
   • Wear gloves and safety glasses to prevent contact with skin and eyes.
